How To Combat Panic And Anxiousness

Our sojourn on earth, teaches us important things about life. One of the things we learn about life is that there are two sides to our experiences in life. These are the positive sides and negative sides. The positive side is what we all seek to attain but we cannot have it all the time even though it presents us with the mental ability to solve our problems. The negative side although undesirable, brings balance, push us through life and can be interestingly turned into positivity.
When the negative side of life presents, we are often plunged into panic, nervousness, anxiety and fear. There is a thin-line between the positive side and negative side of life but we are naturally endowed with survival instincts, which will help us overcome the negative challenges as humans.

If you are the type that often panic, feel nervous, feel your zeal dying, anxious, and afraid, when that happens, and life seems meaningless, this article will show you five ways to come out top when you tussle with the negative side of life.

1. See yourself as the source of your happiness:
Many people often feel that they need to go somewhere out of this world before they can be happy in their day-to-day dealing. The truth however is that, such people do not realize that they are the only ones equipped to make themselves happy.
You are not to make the same mistake as they do, that is why you must begin to see yourself responsible for your happiness, and having this thought guiding your daily activities, you will feel less overwhelmed and undeserving.

2. Engage in things that bring the best out of you:
This is paramount in order to achieve anything because everyone loves to be in his or her comfort zone as that is when productivity is most guaranteed. You can never find yourself in your comfort zone when you do things you are not naturally inclined to do, hence the reason for the panic, distress, fear and disappointment. Therefore, you should do things you can do very well or do things the way you know makes you perform optimally.

3. Reduce some of your responsibilities
Responsibilities often weigh people down when they become too much to handle. There are no rules demanding more than you can offer but when people go overboard to get things done, it puts them into serious troubles.

4. Be receptive to change
Unarguably, change is the only constant in this life; therefore, you should be receptive to change, you should never see your present situation as the ultimate, you should be more open to new ideas and ways to pursue happiness and purpose. Even when some of the ideas fail to work, you should be open to other ideas.

5. Embrace therapy
Therapy is a very good way to combat stress when you begin to feel down. This is because with therapy, you get to know the cause of your challenges; how you are coping with your challenges; and how you can overcome the challenges no matter the difficulty.

Feeling like you’re the only one who’s sad, while everyone around you is happy?

Daily life in this modern world can be hard – with “hard” being an understatement. Between the complications of your professional work life, perhaps a tumultuous personal life, financial and economical stresses, environmental concerns, and other stressors that seem to pop up out of nowhere, our world isn’t an easy place to live in when you combine all of those stressors into one human being.

Why is it so hard to be a hero in today’s world?

Super heroes don’t always fly through the sky in capes and masks; sometimes they are normal people in society who put other people’s needs above their own. This happens on a smaller or a larger scale all over the world. Why is it so difficult for individuals to build up courage to carry out acts of heroism as they are not very common in society today?

Do you feel dissatisfied with your relationships?

Relationships are an essential part of human life and they need to be cherished and treasured but sometimes things can go wrong which puts a strain on the relationship and leaves the individual feeling dissatisfied. However, making a few small changes today will help to resolve or improve problematic relationships with friends, family or partners etc.

Firstly, communication is the biggest aspect of any relationship and a lot of issues can be improved through better communication as a lot of problems and dissatisfaction are derived from poor communication. The easiest way to improve this is to talk directly to your loved one; calmly, clearly and to be understanding of their point of view. As hard as it can be sometimes to talk about specific issues, it is the most efficient way to resolve them. This will create a bond and understanding between the individuals that can immediately resolve problems and, if not, then ‘action’ is the second part.

Words can be said all the time but they don’t mean much without action backing them up. This is a common problem in most relationships and leaves people feeling dissatisfied. When individuals create false expectations and scenarios in the minds of their loved ones and they fail to fulfil them, it puts a drastic strain on their relationship. The feeling of constant let-down begins and grows and this can even destroy that relationship. This goes along with communication, as promises made and words spoken need to be attainable and do not create unrealistic expectations, then these words need to be turned into action. Effort and hard work need to be visible and felt by the loved one even if it’s just little things at first.

Improving these two aspects of a relationship will most likely resolve a lot of issues and remove the feeling of dissatisfaction, improving the bond between the two. These are common mistakes that a lot of people make unconsciously – therefore, a conscious effort to improve them will make a difference for the better.

Do you feel your life is over?

It’s normal, we all get to a point in our lives when we feel demotivated, lost and unhappy. We get into depressing times and don’t know how to get out of it, but there are a few starting points to show us how we can climb out of that state and get our life back on track.

Below are some steps you can take to get your life back on track.

1. GET BUSY
To begin with, nothing beats activity. Inaction is one of the most common causes of depression and a negative disposition about life, so no matter what it is you may have to do, just get started on something. It doesn’t matter what it may be, could be volunteering, taking a class or some community service- it’s even better if you try something outside of your norm. You will discover something you love or meet new people that will bring flavor to your day-to-day recipe.

2. GET A HOBBY OR CHALLENEGE YOURSELF
A lot of people feel unhappy because there’s nothing new and exciting in their lives and the chances are that being in that comfort zone is exactly what’s making them unhappy. If there’s something you feel interests you or you have been meaning to do, give it a shot, it can even be a mundane activity like fixing a doorknob, cancelling your Netflix subscription, or making that appointment you have been putting off.

3. SEEK THE SUPPORT OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY
In addition to taking action, the support of friends and family would be critical in times like this. Reach out and find someone who would listen, give you advice or even force you out of the house. No matter how alone you might feel you are, you are not, and there’s nothing wrong with seeking help when you need it.

4. MAKE EXERCISING A PART OF YOUR DAILY ROUTINE
There are many benefits to exercising, but there’s no better time to exercise than when you are feeling depressed. You will boost your confidence, de-stress your mind, get better sleep and gain confidence to do the things you care about. The exercise routine doesn’t have to be crazy; it can be as simple as taking a walk for 20-25 minutes a day. The idea is to find a hobby or routine and stick with it, and in no time you will begin to feel better.

5. CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE
When you are feeling down, a simple change can make all the difference and there are other times when a change of a much larger magnitude will be required. Sometimes the change we require is only in our minds, sort of like us looking at the “glass half empty” every time. Also something as simple as changing the people you spend time with, how you think about things, what you spend your time doing or even where you work to some extent will make a great deal of difference and would give you the perspective adjustment you need.

Depression is a mental health disorder characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. This feeling can keep you down longer than any other psychological condition, but it doesn’t have to be that way. The way you feel is completely okay, but in a state of depression, there’s more going on than just unhappiness. You can also seek the help of professionals as your mental health is about as important as your physical health.

Mental health awareness

Suffering in silence is not the only way…

Our NHS is extremely efficient in treating the population’s physical health. This is evidenced by the wide range of treatment and medication available for the large number of recognisable symptoms.

Not so with mental illness. It is much harder to recognise or understand which is why 2 out 3 people with a mental illness, such as depression or anxiety disorder, suffer in silence. Some may say that the reason for the lack of open treatment for mental illness is due to the fact that it affects everyone individually and in different ways. Some may not even be aware that they have a problem with mental illness or just be in poor mental health. Lack of motivation and stress in carrying out simple daily tasks can be an indicator of an underlying problem. Those who are aware may seek treatment but it may not be available to them. Many others just choose to suffer the pain in silence due to the lack of knowledge and awareness friends and family have of mental health issues.

There is no health, without mental health; so, why are so many people afraid of seeking treatment? This may be due to not wishing to be exposed; or to the fear of trying to make friends and family understand; or just to a lack of availability of treatment in certain regions. Knowledge about mental health issues needs to be spread more widely and awareness increased so that when the people closest to the individual are needed the most, the individual is not met with ignorant responses because of a lack of understanding. It’s hard to relate to and comprehend illnesses that are not visible such as a broken arm or a wound. Society needs to be more open-minded in recognising when people are continually fighting within their own minds every single day. Symptoms of mental illness and poor mental health are not very clear but they do have similar outcomes to those of serious physical illness. The outcomes may be constant fatigue; no motivation; no desire to improve one’s lot and live life to the full which is why it’s so important for people that are suffering with poor mental health to speak up and obtain treatment.

The treatment for mental illness isn’t as simple as prescribing medication or giving an injection as it is with some physical illnesses. Each individual is affected differently as this depends largely on genes, motivation, the will to bounce back and, above all, receiving quality treatment. This could possibly include therapy or coping mechanisms such as breathing techniques for illnesses such as anxiety disorders. However, receiving treatment will allow the victims of poor mental health to improve and live their lives to their full potential without holding themselves back. It will relieve the endless fighting within their own minds, the exhaustion and the agony and will enable them to live happily and contented.

Poor mental health is just as serious as a physical illness and should be given the same amount of attention and treatment. Hundreds of people around us are suffering in silence and we need to help them. We need to observe subtle hints such as social withdrawal, lack of communication, constant confusion and fatigue. Above all, we need to understand that people who seem to be completely normal may be fighting this battle every day. This means that we should be more sensitive and sympathetic when it comes to talking about mental health issues in our society.

How do I become more positive and optimistic in life?

Living life from a positive standpoint can be difficult when faced with the stresses that daily living presents. From a psychological point of view, positivity is all in your mind, and is also ultimately dependent on how you’re feeling on any given day. Even the most optimistic and happy people have their down days, too. However, shifting your day-to-day feelings and general mood in an upwards, happier direction is critical to ensuring that you get more of what you want out of life, while feeling happier, motivated, and more accomplished in the process.
